The Windrush Generation first arrived in Britain from the Caribbean on June 22, 1948, and would continue to migrate through 1971. Though invited, many were detained, denied health care and housing benefits, or deported. This event was first declared in 2018 after a public scandal hit the front pages earlier in the year. Arthur Torrington, director of The Windrush Foundation, stated upon the date's announcement, "It will cement in the national consciousness the important contribution of those who traveled from the Caribbean to Britain 70 years ago to build a better life and participate in making Britain a stronger nation."

Brits love a picnic! In fact, 70 percent of Brits will picnic at least once a year. National Picnic Week aims to inspire the public to get out and enjoy the British summer with a picnic, friends, and tantalizing recipes. Adam Cox founded National Picnic Week. Continence Week, World: June 17-23 (est)

"World Continence Week is a timely reminder that most people affected by incontinence can be treated, better managed, and even cured. It is important people make the call for help," says the CEO of the Continence Foundation of Australia, Rowan Cockerell. Millions worldwide suffer from incontinence, but they don't need to. It's highly treatable, yet only thirty percent seek help. World Continence Week hopes to change that and encourage those suffering to speak up and get on with their life. According to the Continence Foundation of Australia: Most people affected by incontinence can be better treated, managed, or even cured. About five million Australians – one in four aged 15 years or over—are incontinent. By 2030, the prevalence of incontinence is estimated to increase to 6.5 million Australians. Seventy percent of incontinent people do not seek help. Eighty percent of people who report they are living with incontinence are women. Half of those women are under 50 years. One in three women who have given birth wet themselves. One in five leaks when they laugh. Twenty-five men say they are, or were, incontinent. Incontinence impacts self-esteem, motivation, dignity, and independence.

Fiddlers' Contest & Festival (US-ID): June 17-22

Old Time Fiddlers' Contest and Festival is a citywide event in Weiser, Idaho. First run in 1953, this is the largest fiddling and folk festival in the United States. Enjoy the free outdoor entertainment stage, shop at the booths, visit the beer garden, partake in the carnival, and enjoy the family atmosphere in one place. Highlights include the Fireman's Hose Competition and Battle of the Bluegrass Bands right after the parade. Daily entertainment from 10 a.m. until closing each day of the event. Refugee Week is a collection of sponsored events around the United Kingdom that celebrate the nation's rich diversity of refugees and their contributions to society. There are three general classifications: Asylum seekers, refugees, and economic migrants. The British Red Cross defines a refugee as follows: ASYLUM SEEKERS Asylum seekers flee their homes and arrive in another country, whichever way they can. Makes themselves known to the authorities Submits an asylum application Have a legal right to stay in the country while waiting for a decision. In 2018, the UK received applications for asylum for 37,453 people (including dependents), while Germany received 162,000, France 110,000, Greece 65,000, and Italy 49,000. REFUGEES Refugees have proven that they'd be at risk if they returned to their home country. The government accepts their asylum claim. They can now stay long-term or indefinitely. Refugees have a right under UK and international law to bring their immediate family members to join them. ECONOMIC MIGRANTS An economic migrant has moved to another country to work. They may be living there legally or illegally, depending on how they entered the country; May or may not have a legal work permit.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week is one week yearly to focus on arthritis education and prevention in the United Kingdom and Australia. One in six Australians suffers from arthritis, accounting for 8 percent of the country's total burden of disease and injury. There are more than 100 forms of arthritis, with Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Gout the most common conditions. There is no "too young to get arthritis" age; it affects children, adults, and seniors.

Alan Turing Week: June 18–23

Alan Turing (1912-1954) was an English mathematician, logician, computer scientist, and cryptanalyst who made significant contributions to various fields, including theoretical computer science, artificial intelligence, and cryptography. He is often considered the father of computer science and artificial intelligence. Some of Turing's most notable contributions include: Turing Machine: In 1936, Turing introduced the concept of a theoretical computing machine, now known as the Turing Machine. It is a simple, abstract model of computation designed to simulate the logic of any computer algorithm. This groundbreaking idea laid the foundation for the theory of computation and modern computer science. The Universal Turing Machine: Turing also conceived the concept of a Universal Turing Machine, a machine capable of simulating any other Turing Machine. This idea is fundamental to developing the stored-program computer, with data in its memory and the ability to execute commands. The Turing Test: In 1950, Turing proposed a test, now known as the Turing Test, to determine if a machine can exhibit human-like intelligence. If the judge cannot reliably distinguish between the machine and a human, the machine is said to have passed the test, demonstrating human-like intelligence. Codebreaking: Turing broke the encrypted German messages during World War II. He worked at Bletchley Park, the British codebreaking center, where he helped develop the Bombe, a machine that significantly improved the efficiency of breaking the German Enigma cipher. His work shortened the war and saved countless lives. A homosexual, Turing was persecuted, and in 1952, he was convicted of "gross indecency" and subjected to chemical castration as an alternative to imprisonment. Turing died in 1954, aged 41, from cyanide poisoning, believed to be suicide. In 2013, Queen Elizabeth II posthumously granted Turing a royal pardon, acknowledging the profound injustice he had suffered. Today, Turing is remembered as a pioneer and a hero, with his work and legacy continuing to shape computer science and artificial intelligence.

Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival (US-TN): June 13-16

Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival began in 2002, taking inspiration from music festivals of the 60s and 70s like Woodstock. "Bonnaroo" is Creole slang for "a really good time."

The festival lives up to its name. The lineup is exceptionally diverse, featuring multiple music genres, including rock, pop, hip-hop, country, bluegrass, jazz, electronic, and folk. Over the years, some of the biggest names in music have graced the Bonnaroo stages, including Elton John, Paul McCartney, Eminem, and Radiohead.

Entering the festival site is like entering a different world. Thousands of tents are pitched on every available space, creating a colorful patchwork across the fields. The sense of community in these camps is incredible. Everyone is your friend at Bonnaroo.

Multiple activities provide entertainment throughout the four days. There's the Comedy Tent if you want to catch some laughs and the Cinema Tent, where you can chill and watch some films. They even have yoga classes and a mini-parade! Bonnaroo features a fantastic array of food, including festival classics like burgers and pizzas, gourmet fare, vegan options, and everything in between. They also host a special Bonnaroo-themed beer.

The festival's motto is "Radiate Positivity," precisely your mood throughout the event.

This community-building initiative marks the anniversary of British parliament member Jo Cox's birthday (Born June 22, 1974). Cox was murdered on June 16, 2016, and strongly supported immigrant rights, Palestinian rights, and the BDS campaign to end apartheid in Israel. The idea of The Great Get Together is to get to know your neighbors and realize that we have more in common than differences. This event first ran in 2017.

PinkPop Festival began in 1970 and has been held annually in Landgraaf, Limburg, The Netherlands. It got its name from its original date on Pentecost Monday (which is called "Pinksteren" in Dutch). Today the festival occurs in June and spans three days. This festival has hosted many of the world's biggest music acts, including the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Pearl Jam, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, and Radiohead. Music played is a mix of pop, electronic, hip-hop, folk, rock—you name it. PinkPop hosts three stages. There's the Main Stage (the biggest one), the North Stage, and the Garden Stage, which is the smallest and has a more intimate vibe. They're all spaced out so that the sound doesn't overlap. The Dutch sure know how to have a good time. Attendees are relaxed, friendly, and excited about the music. Their spirit of camaraderie is infectious. The festival becomes a pop-up town for a weekend, with tens of thousands of festival-goers camping in the nearby fields. The camping experience is part of the fun, with people from all over the world sharing stories, drinks, and laughs. Food stalls and trucks offer traditional Dutch fries and pancakes to burgers and vegan options. PinkPop is one of those festivals that every music lover should experience at least once. ARRL Field Day: June 22-23

Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio's science, skill, and service to our communities and nation.
