National Pollinator Month began as a weekly event in the United States and Canada and expanded to an entire month as of 2020. If you grew up before the 1990s, you probably remember seeing a lot of bees and butterflies in the summer. They were everywhere; anywhere there were flowers. Take a walk around your neighborhood today, and more likely than not, you won't see a single bee or butterfly. Where did they all go? Over the past two decades, insecticides and other chemicals have drastically culled bees and pollinator populations. The reduction in pollinators is devastating to food production and biodiversity. Bees, butterflies, birds, and bats are essential to pollination; food won't grow without them. National Pollinator Month is your opportunity to learn about the effects of pesticides on nature's workers and a chance to make your home, school, or workplace pollinator friendly.

PTSD Awareness Month, Intl.: June

PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) Awareness Day began in 2010. In 2014 the US Congress made this a month-long event, with an awareness day on June 27. It has since gone worldwide. National Center for PTSD (NCPTSD) supports PTSD Month and encourages people to become aware of the signs of PTSD and provide effective treatments for the disease. Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that manifests after exposure to a traumatic event, including rape, being forcibly separated from one's parents, war, crime victim, bullying, or domestic violence.

June is the month to marvel at their engineering and take a few for a test drive. China has the most roller coasters in the world, with over 1,518. The United States has 826. Japan has 244. The numbers are from the 2020 Guinness Book of World Records edition. The first patent for a roller coaster was given to John G Taylor on July 2, 1872.

Rose Month: June

The rose is the official flower of June via tradition, and thus June is known as National Rose Month. With over 150 species, roses have existed for 35 million years, according to fossils, and are native to the northern hemisphere. It is believed this fragrant flower was first cultivated in China approximately 5,000 years ago. Throughout this month, florists are encouraged to present different varieties of roses. In 1986 the rose was declared the official flower and made part of the United States National Emblem by President Ronald Reagan.

Scams Awareness Month seeks to provide the people of Wales, England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland with the tools, reasoning, and education necessary to spot and avoid scams. Initiated in the United Kingdom, Scleroderma Awareness Month seeks to unite organizations worldwide to increase awareness of this rare autoimmune condition. Scleroderma is a rare, chronic disease of the immune system, blood vessels, and connective tissue. Two and a half million people worldwide have scleroderma, with over 12,000 in the United Kingdom. It is an autoimmune condition, meaning the immune system becomes overactive and attacks healthy tissue.

Skyscraper Month: June

Skyscraper Month celebrates the diversity of the world's tallest buildings. Louis H. Sullivan created the first skyscraper. A mentor to Frank Lloyd Wright, he is considered the father of the American skyscraper. His most famous buildings include the Guaranty Building in Buffalo, New York; Wainwright Building in St. Louis, Missouri; Schiller Building and Theater in Chicago, Illinois; and the Auditorium Building in Chicago, Illinois. In 2017, 23 countries hosting 69 cities erected 144 skyscrapers worldwide, half of which are in China, breaking the previous record for the number of skyscrapers built in a year. For a building to be considered a skyscraper, it must be a minimum of 660 feet tall/200 meters. Hong Kong leads the world with the most skyscrapers, followed by Shenzhen, New York City, and Dubai. In 2022, China led in constructing skyscrapers with 86 new buildings. The United Arab Emirates came in second at nine, India at eight, and the United States at six.
