Fiddlers Frolic is the annual Texas state fiddling championship in Hallettsville, Texas. The competition occurs over several days and includes contests and prizes for fiddling and bar-b-que, adult events in the evening, and family events during the day. Over 15,000 people attend each year, and the winner of the fiddling contest walks off with $25,000.

Alien Day (2016): April 26

Alien Day first ran in 2009 and was a single-day event for the re-release of the Aliens comic strip on May 25 by Dark Horse Comics on the 30th anniversary of the 1979 release of the film Alien. 20th Century Fox saw an opportunity and picked up the one-day event in 2016, celebrating the sequel’s 30th anniversary, and playing on April 26, which loosely coincided with the moon (LV-426 moon) on which the alien pods were first discovered. Each year since the entertainment studio uses the day to delight its fans and release alien-related merchandise.

Antiqua Sailing Week (AG): April 26 - May 2

Antigua Sailing Week started in 1968 when friends and hoteliers got together to hold a regatta (sailboat or yacht race). Antigua Hotel Association sponsored the first Antigua Sailing Week, which occurred June 8-15, 1968. Festivities included a three-day ‘Lord Nelson Regatta’ with sailing yachts of up to 135 feet in length, power boat races, deep sea fishing, and Sunfish sailing contests. There was also a two-day race among Antigua’s workboat fishermen. The inaugural Antigua Sailing Week was a huge success and repeated the following year, with dates moved up to May 31 through June 7, 1969. And so it went each subsequent year, with new sponsors coming on board and the program of events growing and evolving.

Chornobyl Disaster Remembrance Day, Intl. (1986): April 26

On April 26, 1986, reactor number four at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant outside the city of Pripyat exploded. It is the most significant nuclear accident to date. In 2016, the United Nations set aside April 26 each year as International Chornobyl Disaster Remembrance Day. It is a day to remember the impact of the disaster on the environment, the town, and the 54 people who died as a result of the accident. It was 1:23 A.M. on April 26, 1986, during an experiment, a significant explosion occurred at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Unit 4, an RBMK 1000-type, graphite-moderated nuclear power reactor in Pripyat. The initial blast dispersed radioactive particles over nearby towns, farms, and eventually to many other countries. Five hundred thousand brave firefighters, engineers, technicians, and emergency workers worked for over six months to minimize one of the worst civilian nuclear disasters in history. Radioactivity emanating from the Chornobyl disaster has been detected in Belarus, Poland, Russia, and in Scandinavia.

Confederate Memorial Day is observed in most of the former states of The Confederacy on different days. In some cases, like Georgia, it is no longer referred to as Confederate Memorial Day but rather as a state holiday honoring the men who died fighting for The Confederacy during the American Civil War, 1861-1865. The dates are as follows: Alabama, Georgia: fourth Monday in April Mississippi: Last Monday in April Florida: April 26 Tennessee, Kentucky & Louisiana: June 3, Jefferson Davis' birthday in 1808 North & South Carolina: May 10, Anniversary of the death of General "Stonewall" Jackson in 1863 Texas: January 19, Birthday of Robert E. Lee in 1807 Due to the 400-year legacy of slavery (ending in 1865) and state-supported racial segregation (ending in 1964), this event is highly contentious and seen as a celebration of racism by many critics.
