Donate Life Month is committed to educating the public about the importance of being a registered donor. Organ transplantation is a medical procedure that has helped save countless lives in the United States. According to the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), which manages the nation's organ transplant system, more than 40,000 organ transplants were performed in the US in 2020. World Health Organization (WHO) estimates 139,000 organ transplants were performed worldwide in 2019 (most recent number available). The most commonly transplanted organs are kidneys, livers, hearts, lungs, and pancreas. In addition, tissue transplants, such as corneas, skin, and bone, are also commonly performed. Despite organ transplantation's success, many challenges are still facing the field. One of the biggest challenges is the shortage of donor organs. There are currently more than 100,000 people on the waiting list for a transplant, and many of them will die before a suitable organ becomes available. Ongoing efforts to increase the number of organ donors, both living and deceased, in recent years, coupled with a push to increase the use of organs from so-called "marginal" donors, including older donors or those with medical conditions that might make their organs less desirable. In addition, there is ongoing research into ways to grow replacement organs in the lab, although this technology is still in its early stages. Overall, organ transplantation remains a critical part of modern medicine in the United States, and ongoing research and efforts to increase donor availability are helping to improve outcomes for patients in need.

Fabry is one of the 7,000 rare diseases most people have never heard of, which is one reason Fabry organizations in the US, Canada, and Australia have chosen the month of April as Fabry Awareness Month. Caused by a defective gene, the GLA gene, Fabry disease inhibits the creation of the enzyme alpha-galactosidase A, which is essential in the metabolic breakdowns of fatty substances. Without the proper breakdown of nutrients, persons with Fabry are susceptible to kidney failure, heart attacks, and strokes earlier in life. This month is about raising awareness of the disease and providing those suffering from it or caring for those with it with support, tools, and community.

The United States has come a long way in its fight for freedom and equality for all citizens. Fair Housing Month, a cause best articulated by the late Dr. Martin Luther King, is set aside each year to educate the public about the laws concerning real estate and the Fair Housing Act of 1968 with its 1988 amendments. The Fair Housing Act is a federal act in the United States intended to protect the buyer or renter of a dwelling from seller or landlord discrimination. It is unlawful to refuse to sell, rent to, or negotiate with any person because of their inclusion in a protected class. Protected classes are race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or handicap. The Fair Housing Act does not allow lessors or sellers to: Refuse to rent or sell housing. Refuse to negotiate for housing. Make housing unavailable. Deny a dwelling. Set different terms, conditions, or privileges for the sale or rental of a dwelling. Provide different housing services or facilities. Falsely deny that housing is available for inspection, sale, or rental. It is illegal to persuade owners to sell or rent (blockbusting) for profit motives. Deny anyone access to or membership in a facility or service (such as a multiple listing service) related to the sale or rental of housing based on the aforementioned protected classes.

Financial Literacy Month began in April 2000. The purpose of the month is to highlight the importance of financial literacy and teach Americans how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits. These include savings, investing, managing credit effectively, getting out of debt, planning for retirement, first home, and college for children. Most Americans experience their first run-in with credit and debt during college, and many programs are geared towards college students and helping them learn to manage debt and spending wisely. With the ever-popular memes and jokes that the US educational system teaches students about everything except relevant and real-life solutions to problems, including how to deal with finances, this event is much-needed and gaining more and more popularity nationwide.
