Borderline personality disorder (BPD), marked by the inability to manage emotions, is a serious mental illness affecting nearly 6% of the population, millions worldwide. Symptoms generally occur in adolescence or early adulthood and can be present in familial relationships, business relationships, or both. Signs of BPD include impulsiveness, reckless behavior, and an inability to maintain healthy relationships. BPD often compounds other issues, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and eating disorders.

October 3 is National Boyfriend Day, a day to celebrate the pre-marital romantic bond between a man and a woman; in today's society, it can also describe the romantic relationship between two men. This event simply appeared on the internet in 2014 and gained wide acceptance in 2016. Boyfriend is an informal honorarium. The term "boyfriend" originates in English, dating back to the 19th Century. Initially, "boy" denoted a young male, while "friend" signified a close acquaintance. Over time, the combined term began to describe a woman's male companion, especially when the relationship held romantic or intimate implications. In modern times, the gender-ubiquitous word "partner" often replaces the word "boyfriend." Evolution of Dating in Western Culture Courtship in the 18th and 19th centuries: Before the concept of dating took hold, Western societies practiced courtship. This formal process involved a young man seeking permission from a woman's parents to court her. The intention was marriage, and activities took place in the family setting. The Rise of "Calling" in the Late 19th Century: As urban areas grew, the practice of "calling" emerged. Young men would visit women in their homes, where they'd engage in supervised conversations in the parlor. The Advent of Modern Dating in the Early 20th Century: The cultural shifts following World War I and the popularization of the automobile ushered in significant cultural changes in the 1920s. Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Ntl.: October

As declared by Presidential Proclamation, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is diagnosed in more than 190,000 people in the US annually; 40,000 will die from it. Men also get breast cancer, which is often fatal due to the lack of personal screening and other tools available to women to help catch the disease early and thus treat it. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month exists to encourage regular check-ups, teach self-examination and help both men and women catch breast cancer early.

Bridge Day Festival, Fayetteville, (US-WV): October 19

Bridge Day is held annually on the third Saturday of October and is the world’s largest extreme sporting event. On Bridge Day, BASE jumpers leap off the longest single-span bridge in the United States. To participate in the festival as a BASE jumper, you must have completed 100 parachute jumps before the event. Bungee jumping is not allowed during the event, but there is a 600-foot zip line and a catwalk 851 feet above the river that non-BASE jumpers can join. Families can also enjoy this event, for the local community has restaurants that cater to families with children.

Bring Your Bible to School Day: October 3

Bring Your Bible to School Day is an initiative led by the conservative Christian evangelical group Focus on the Family. It encourages students to bring their bible to public and private schools on the first Thursday in October, proselytize and share their faith journey with fellow students and teachers. Bug Busting Day, Ntl. (UK): October 31

National Bug Busting Day occurs three times per year in the United Kingdom: January, June, and October. It is a concentrated effort to stem the tide of lice infections within schools and the general population. Through the registered charity Community Hygiene Concern, the government teaches parents, educators, and pharmacists how to detect and stop the spread of head lice and provides affordable Bug Busting kits. Community Bug Busting Days began with the late Dr. RJ Donaldson, affectionately known as Paddy. Dr. Donaldson demonstrated in the 1970s that an intensive detection/treatment campaign could dramatically cut the prevalence of head lice. He was the tireless mentor of the Bug Busting Days organized by Community Hygiene Concern, taking a personal interest from 1986 in our development of wet detection methods in preference to less effective dry or damp methods. Today Bug Busting Days are organized in partnership with the Department of Health. Lice are a big problem in schools. Once they infect an individual, these parasites can be very difficult to exterminate. The following are some facts: The eggs of head lice usually take seven to ten days to hatch. Combing dry or damp hair with a fine-tooth comb is not a reliable way to detect lice. Metal combs are not suitable for louse detection because these combs are primarily nit combs. Lice caught between the tightly spaced teeth remain unnoticed against the metal and can be combed back into the hair unharmed at subsequent strokes. No studies prove that wet head lice grasp hairs more tightly, thus hampering their removal with a fine-tooth comb. You do not need head-to-head contact to catch lice; proximity will do it. Head lice are a community problem. Approximately 20% of head lice cases occur in people over 16 or under four years old.
