With the explosion of tablets, e-books have risen in popularity over the past 15 years. They've been around since the beginning of the internet, first published as Word Documents and PDFs. Today e-books require programming skills to lay them out on multiple platforms available. Apple requires one format, Kindle another, and Nook yet another. The platform is still evolving, but what is clear is that e-books are here to stay. Many e-book distributors online have specials this month, allowing you to try an e-book if you've never read one or pick up something that interests you. Project Gutenberg (https://www.gutenberg.org), an online repository and source for classics, has many of the most outstanding books available for free in English, Portuguese, German and French." Global Recycling Day was launched in 2018 to recognize and celebrate the natural resources of our planet and the necessity of giving each a new life. The day's mission is two-fold: 1) To tell world leaders that recycling is too important not to be a global issue and that a joined-up approach to recycling is urgently needed. 2) To ask people across the planet to think of resources, not waste when it comes to the goods around us. We will only award recycled goods their actual value and repurpose them as they deserve once this happens.

Established in 1943, American Red Cross Month occurs each March. 2012 Presidential Proclamation of American Red Cross Month: "After more than 130 years of providing humanitarian relief at home and abroad, the American Red Cross reflects the compassion and generosity central to our national identity. At moments of profound need, the actions of men and women across our country reflect our noblest ideals of service—from search-and-rescue teams that brave disaster zones to ordinary citizens who deliver not only lifesaving care and supplies but also hope for a brighter tomorrow. During American Red Cross Month, we pay tribute to all those whose dedication to relieving human suffering illuminates even our darkest hours. A visionary humanitarian and unyielding advocate for those in need, Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross in 1881 after many years of tending to soldiers and families injured in war's wake. In the generations that followed, the American Red Cross served as a force for peace and recovery during times of crisis. Presidents of the United States have called upon the American Red Cross time and again, beginning when President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Red Cross Week during the First World War and continuing into the 21st century. RESOLUTION Designating March 22, 2019, as “National Rehabilitation Counselors Appreciation Day.” Whereas rehabilitation counselors support individuals with disabilities by— (1) conducting assessments (2) providing counseling (3) supporting families, and (4) assisting in the development of individualized plans for employment for individuals with disabilities who need rehabilitation. Whereas the purpose of professional organizations for rehabilitation counseling and education is to promote the improvement of rehabilitation services available to individuals with disabilities through— (1) quality education for counselors, and (2) rehabilitation research Whereas various professional organizations have vigorously advocated for up-to-date education and training and the maintenance of professional standards in the field of rehabilitation counseling and education, including— (1) the National Rehabilitation Association (2) the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Association (3) the National Council on Rehabilitation Education (4) the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association (5) the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (6) the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (7) the Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation, and (8) the Council on Rehabilitation Education Whereas, in March of 1983, the president of the National Council on Rehabilitation Education testified before the Subcommittee on Select Education of the Committee on Education and Labor of the House of Representatives and was instrumental in bringing to the attention of Congress, the need for qualified rehabilitation counselors; and Whereas credentialed rehabilitation counselors provide a higher quality of service to individuals in need of rehabilitation, and the development of an accreditation system for rehabilitation counselors supports the continued education of rehabilitation counselors: Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Senate— (1) designates March 22, 2019, as “National Rehabilitation Counselors Appreciation Day”; and (2) commends— (A) rehabilitation counselors for their dedication and hard work in providing counseling to individuals with disabilities who need rehabilitation, and (B) professional organizations for their efforts in assisting individuals with disabilities who need rehabilitation.

Rejoice Sunday, or Laetare Sunday, is the fourth Sunday of Lent, and it is known as Gaudete Sunday when it is the third Sunday of Advent. During Advent, the four weeks before Christ’s birth, priests and pastors traditionally wear purple or blue vestments, and the altar is bathed in the same colors. Except for this Sunday, when the altar cloths and vestments are changed to rose and the Advent Calendar (wreath with four candles), this Sunday is marked by a rose candle. On March 28, 1384, King Richard II of England issued a decree condemning the eating of cats, and cats in the West have been heaving a sigh of relief ever since! Cats are beneficial for hunting and killing mice and rats, the source of plague in Medieval Europe. By forbidding the eating of cats, King Richard ensured more cats and fewer rats were around. Today we celebrate this anniversary (though technically, it would be 13 days later with the Gregorian Calendar's adoption) on March 28 each year as Respect Your Cat Day.
