National Toilet Paper Day focuses on the indispensability of toilet paper. The first time it ever appeared on a roll was on this day, August 26, 1871. The idea of toilet paper first appeared in China during the first century BC, where it was used by the wealthy to clean themselves. It was first manufactured in China during the 14th century AD. However, it wasn't until 1857 that American Joseph Gayetty invented the first version of what is now considered a modern necessity. His sheets of 'medicated paper for the water closet' are the first version of commercially available toilet paper. Before toilet paper, people used a variety of instruments beginning with their hands, wool, lace, hemp, rags, wood shavings, leaves, grass, hay, stone, sand, moss, water, snow, maize, ferns, husks, fruit skins, seashells, and corncobs.

Clan gatherings: The Highland Games allow people to celebrate and explore their Scottish heritage. Clans erect tents where visitors can learn about their clan's history and participate in clan-specific activities.
