The Old-Time Music Ozark Heritage Festival is the signature event in West Plains. The two-day festival celebrates, preserves, and passes on an appreciation of the old-time music and folk life traditions distinctive to the Ozark Highlands. Folk music has its distinctive sound and contributes to the complex palette of indigenous American music. Musicians, artisans, and storytellers from throughout the state come to the West Plains festival in enthusiastic support of creating a place to listen, watch, interact, and honor the old-time traditions of the Southern Ozarks communities. Activities include the Fiddlers' Frolic, quilting competitions, beard competitions, mule jump, jig dancing, square dancing, street performances, Dutch oven workshops, a bucket brigade, and children's activities. Orlando Gay Days (US-FL): June 5-8

Over 150,000 rainbow-embracing people of every sexual and gender classification flood into Orlando, Florida, its hotels, and its theme parks for the annual Gay Days—a spring break-like extravaganza for the LGB/TQ+ communities since 1991. The festivities include various activities, such as pool parties, concerts, comedy shows, art exhibitions, sporting events, and dance parties. It's a celebration of diversity, inclusion, and pride aimed at promoting visibility and acceptance of the LGB/TQ+ community. One of the most recognized aspects of Orlando Gay Days is "Gay Day in the Magic Kingdom," where attendees visit Disney World's Magic Kingdom Park wearing red shirts to show their support for the LGB/TQ+ community.

Orthodox Pentecost is a Christian observance celebrating the descent of the Holy Spirit into the disciples of Jesus Christ following His ascension to heaven (Easter). It is always held on the seventh Sunday after Easter and coincides with the Jewish festival of Shavuoth. Pentecost marks the beginning of the Christian faith as an official movement in 33 AD. In the Commonwealth countries, Pentecost is also called Whitsun or Whit. Its significance to Christians can be paralleled with the Holy Month of Ramadan in the Islamic faith and the receipt of the Decalogue in Judaism. In an era of growing uncertainty, public engagement in parliamentary work is essential for meeting people's expectations and aspirations. It fosters public trust in governance and counteracts the rise of authoritarianism. The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) highlighted the importance of public engagement on the International Day of Parliamentarism, observed annually on June 30, marking the IPU's founding in 1889. Strong parliaments are key to democracy, serving as the people's voice, passing laws, allocating funds, and holding governments accountable. They also link international and national agendas, helping to implement international treaties and agreements. The IPU works with parliaments to strengthen their capacity to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In post-conflict countries, robust parliaments can facilitate a peaceful transition to democracy. The United Nations encourages the involvement of parliamentarians and parliamentary organizations in its work. The IPU, as the global organization of parliaments, promotes transparency, accountability, and participation at the global level, interacting with the UN on a wide range of issues. Parliaments were actively involved in the post-2015 development framework negotiations, advocating for goals related to democratic governance. To track parliamentary progress, the IPU and partners have introduced indicators based on Sustainable Development Goals Targets 16.6 and 16.7. This self-assessment tool allows parliaments to measure their democratic structure, operations, and activities against set criteria, fostering more resilient, effective, and independent institutions.

Paul Bunyan Legend Day: June 28*

National Paul Bunyan Day celebrates Paul Bunyan, one of the folk heroes of North America, specifically Canada, and appears to have originated in lore around 1837. Accompanied by his bull, Babe the Blue Ox, the legend says that the Great Lakes came into being because Babe needed a watering hole, and the Grand Canyon emerged because Paul Bunyan and Babe walked through the mountains dragging his axe. Paul Bunyan originated as a North American oral tradition common among loggers, but William B. Laughead popularized the stories about this character as publicity for the Red River Lumber Company. The first known printed story about Bunyan, "Caught on the Run," ran in the Duluth News Tribune on August 4, 1904. Its author is unknown. One of the more notable authors is James MacGillivray, who wrote about Paul Bunyan in "Round River" in the July 24, 1910 edition of the Detroit News. Today is one of two Paul Bunyan Days.
