Mid-Autumn Festival (Zhong Qiu Jie Festival) in China is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese Lunar calendar, typically on the full moon between September and October. Considered a public holiday and the second most anticipated festival in China, it is known by several names, including the Moon Festival, Harvest Moon Festival, and Mooncake Festival. The festival is centralized on three values: • Family & Marriage • Charity • Thanksgiving Folklore relating to the festival involves the couple Hou Yi, an archer, and his wife Chang'e. According to legend, ten suns rose in the sky, and Hou Yi shot nine down, leaving one to light the sky. Because of this, the gods gave Hou Yi an elixir to immortalize him. Rather than take it, Hou Yi gave the elixir to his wife for safekeeping. However, his apprentice, Peng Meng, attempted to steal the potion from Chang'e while her husband was hunting. Chang'e swallowed it, making her immortal. Rising into the night, she chose to stay with the moon to be near her husband. As a token of love, Hou Yi placed her favorite foods in his yard for her at the harvest moon. This story derives from the tradition of setting out food for loved ones and eating mooncakes. The festival's highlight is mooncakes, the eating and displaying of them within a group. The round shape symbolizes unity and family. The festival is also the time to celebrate marriages, and it occurs in several East Asian countries.

Created in 1988 as an international event, the NAIAS is among the most prestigious auto shows in the world, providing unparalleled access to the automotive products, people, and ideas that matter most – up close and in one place. Administered by Executive Director Rod Alberts, the NAIAS is one of the most significant media events in North America and the only auto show in the United States to earn a distinguished annual sanction from the Organization Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles, the Paris-based alliance of automotive trade associations and manufacturers from around the world. National Cheeseburger Day celebrates an international favorite, the cheeseburger. A cheeseburger is a hamburger with cheese. Where did the hamburger come from initially? Mongolia. Mongolia is a cold country, and in the 11th century, everyone traveled by horse. The Mongols were ranchers and raised several herd animals. They sold the meat from their herds across Eurasia, with Moscow being a primary market. Unfortunately, on horseback, there isn't a lot of storage space for meat or anything else. The Mongols flattened the beef into patties, making it easier to carry and sell in small quantities. Eventually, sailors took this idea west to Europe. Hamburg, Germany, where they ground beef and served it as a patty, the Hamburg steak. Ground meat easily mixes with other ingredients, extending its ability to feed more people, making it an economical form of meat, and it cooks faster. People would often wrap the meat in bread, but there was no purpose-built bread for the patty yet. The Hamburg steak arrived in the US with immigrants, and in 1916 Walter Anderson, a short-order cook, decided to make it portable. He created the hamburger bun and founded White Castle, the first fast food hamburger chain. Versions abound of who had the great idea to add cheese to the hamburger. We know that between 1924 and 1926, "cheeseburgers" began popping up on menus.

International Equal Pay Day, celebrated on September 18th, symbolizes global efforts to ensure equal pay for work of equal value, highlighting a core commitment of the United Nations to human rights and opposition to all forms of discrimination, particularly against women and girls. Despite this, women are still paid less than men globally, with a gender pay gap of around 20 percent due to historical and structural inequalities, poverty, and unequal access to resources and opportunities. Progress towards closing the gender pay gap has been slow and challenging, although the principle of equal pay for men and women is widely accepted. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) address these issues, focusing on achieving gender equality and empowerment for all women and girls, while promoting decent work, economic growth, and equal pay for work of equal value for everyone, including young people and persons with disabilities. The mainstreaming of a gender perspective is deemed crucial in realizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Achieving equal pay is a significant milestone for human rights and gender equality, requiring collective global efforts. Key stakeholders like the United Nations, including UN Women and the International Labour Organization (ILO), invite member states, civil society, women's organizations, businesses, and workers' and employers' organizations to actively promote equal pay and the economic empowerment of women and girls.

The Walnut Valley Association was formed in 1972 to produce the Walnut Valley National Guitar Flat-Picking Championships Festival, also known as the Flat-Picking Championships, the Walnut Valley Festival, or simply Winfield, by long-time attendees. Evolving from two days to its current five days, held the third weekend of September, it endeavors to produce family entertainment on four stages simultaneously; a large, quality, juried arts and crafts fair; workshops; and acoustic instrument contests. Currently, the event hosts 30 performances and eight rounds, including two international and five national, with one for locals. Along with the National Flat Pick Championships and the International Finger Style Championships, the Walnut Valley Festival hosts the International Autoharp, National Mandolin, National Mountain Dulcimer, National Hammered Dulcimer, National Bluegrass Banjo, and Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddle Championships.
