Initiated in 2019, National Sons Day resulted from the work of Jill Nico, who hopes to encourage parents to discuss and seek ways to improve their children's experience growing up. September 25 is National Daughters Day. Nico thought it was about time there was a sons' day too, and chose March 4 because it is March, and she enjoys the number four. Social media made it so. St. Pitty’s Week: March 4-10 (est)

March is Providence Animal Center's Pit Bull Celebration Month, a month-long focus on adoptions and a subsidized spay-neuter drive. Affectionately referred to as "Pitty's" by their owners, a pit bull is a broad term for several breeds and mixed breed dogs classified as work dogs. Pitties are prized for their loyalty, affection, and intelligence, traits that sometimes leave them unfairly maligned due to their fiercely protective nature. Natural guard dogs, attacks, when they occur, are usually due to poor training or owner handling. The month's highlight is St. Pitty's Week. St. Pitty's is an essential fundraiser for Providence Animal Center's Fix-a-Bull program. Funds raised subsidize the spay-and-neuter outreach and behavior initiative targeted at the most in-need dogs within the Greater Philadelphia area. For people living in Media, Pennsylvania, or off the Mainline, several bars and restaurants host fundraising nights, drink specials, and other special events.

Tennis Day, World: March 4

World Tennis Day is an initiative of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and StarGames. It first ran on March 4, 2013, intending to promote the sport of tennis and increase tennis participation among young players around the globe. Developed out of the success of the BNP Paribas Showdown in New York and Tennis Night in America, the promotional event has garnered tremendous support since its announcement in November 2012. The inaugural World Tennis Day centered around two high-profile events: the BNP Paribas Showdown in New York and Hong Kong. These events featured current and former professionals competing and demonstrations of the ITF’s Tennis10s program. World Tennis Day is a global grassroots initiative. The ITF encouraged its 210 national associations to support the day with their club activities to attract new tennis participants. By 2013, World Tennis Day activities took place in 58 countries. World Tennis Day occurs on the first Monday in March.

Trump Federal Conspiracy Trial Begins (US-DC): March 4 (postponed)

March 4, 2024, is the date set for the Federal Conspiracy Trial of former American President Donald J. Trump. For the majority of Americans, the trial of America's former President on conspiracy charges to overturn a Federal election is a welcomed addition to the 2024 justice calendar. For his actions and lack of action on and before the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol, the former President is charged with —Conspiracy to violate civil rights —Conspiracy to defraud the government —Corrupt obstruction of an official proceeding —Conspiracy to carry out such obstruction For Mr. Trump's acolytes and true believers, applying American law to their beloved leader's actions is seen as traitorous, partisan, and malicious—facts are irrelevant to his devotees. As a countermand, Mr. Trump declared his candidacy for President a full six months before, historically, candidates file once it became clear he faced severe legal issues in multiple states and on a federal level. A Presidential candidacy, he believed, was a way to postpone accountability, raise more funds, and potentially erase any guilty verdicts should he and his team regain power. To complete the circular logic, as a Presidential candidate, he could use the excuse that court appearance unfairly biased the electorate against him. For most Americans, the cognitive dissonance on display with his proponents is confounding, and these ploys are transparent skulduggery. For his enraptured base, 30 percent of the Republican party numbering over 20 million souls, the charges prove he is a victim. The fact that the charges are serious, detailed, and demonstrate the President violated their rights too, does not factor into their deification of the candidate. This trial will be the first time a former American President has been charged with conspiracy and obstruction, violating the Presidential oath of office and United States law. A fair trial is critical to the future of the United States; globally, it is essential to the nation's standing and credibility with other countries. The former President will be judged not guilty if the facts do not support a guilty verdict beyond a reasonable doubt. However, if the facts prove he is guilty, he will be sentenced and jailed. This has never happened in the United States, but it has happened and does happen frequently worldwide. One of the founding principles of the United States is that no man can be accused of a crime and found guilty of that crime without a fair trial judged by his peers. Mr. Trump is lucky he lives in the United States. Not all nations treat those accused of a crime justly, particularly leaders.

The event has been celebrated since 2010 and has grown significantly over the years, attracting thousands of participants and supporters worldwide. The main objectives of Women Of Aviation Worldwide Week are to: Increase awareness about the history and contributions of women in aviation and aerospace. Encourage more women and girls to explore and pursue careers in these industries. Provide mentorship, support, and networking opportunities for women in the aviation and aerospace fields. Break down stereotypes and change perceptions about the roles women can play in these industries. Attucks, Crispus Attucks Day (1770): March 5

Crispus Attucks is believed to have been born into slavery in 1723 and later escaped. His father was an African-American man, a slave, and his mother was of the Natick tribe of First Nation's people. He claimed his place in history on March 5, 1770, when he was killed during the Boston Massacre, making him the first American to die in the American Revolution. Today honors him, his sacrifice, and the contributions African and Native Americans have made to the United States.

Ging Zat (CN): March 5-6

Ging Zat, (sometimes spelled Ging Zit in English) or "Awaking of the insects" in Chinese, is a rather funny tradition in Hong Kong culture. It's the day each year when insects emerge from hibernation, and tradition states that the gates of hell open and the spirits of the dead return to the world of the living. It is a time to honor and appease these spirits with offerings of food and other gifts. The aggrieved persons hit a paper puppet of a villain or an enemy with a shoe or slipper to expel lousy luck and misfortune and ward off negativity and evil spirits.

Effigies represent a specific person, such as a political figure, a spurned lover, or a business rival. Participants may take turns hitting it with a shoe or slipper while shouting insults and curses; it is quite effective at releasing negative emotions and channeling them into the representation rather than the actual person.

The International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness aims to raise public awareness and understanding of disarmament issues, particularly among young people. Multilateral disarmament and arms limitation have long been central to the United Nations' efforts to maintain global peace and security. Concerns over weapons of mass destruction, especially nuclear weapons, remain significant due to their destructive power and threat to humanity. Excessive accumulation of conventional weapons, illicit trade in small arms, and the use of explosive weapons in populated areas pose challenges to international peace, security, and sustainable development. Emerging technologies like autonomous weapons have also garnered attention and raise global security concerns. Observed on March 5, the International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness contributes to enhancing understanding of how disarmament efforts contribute to peace, security, conflict prevention, and alleviating human suffering caused by weapons. The General Assembly, through resolution A/RES/77/51, invites Member States, UN organizations, civil society, academia, media, and individuals to commemorate the day through educational and public awareness activities.

Multiple Personality Day: March 5

Multiple Personality Day focuses on raising awareness about Dissociative Identity Disorder. This is a mental illness where at least two distinct identities (known as alter egos or alters) control a person's behavior and memory. The first documented case of dissociative identity disorder occurred in 1584. Jeanne Fery's diagnosis resulted in an exorcism, thus its documentation. For Ms. Fery, it could have been much worse. Many women with DID were accused of witchcraft. The first person diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder was Louis August Vivet in 1882. The average number of personalities a person suffering from this disease displays is ten.
