Irish Coffee Day celebrates the anniversary of the Irish coffee arriving in the United States and becoming one of the world’s most beloved cocktails. The original recipe for Irish coffee goes like this:

“Cream as rich as an Irish brogue; coffee as strong as a friendly hand; sugar sweet as the tongue of a rogue; and whiskey smooth as the wit of the land.”

Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco was the first to serve Irish Coffee on November 10, 1952. Joe Sheridan, a bartender, is the mixologist. Stanton Delaplane is the journalist who discovered the drink in Ireland and brought the secret formula back to the US. The original Irish coffee is believed to have been first served at the flying boat terminal in Foynes, Ireland.

Orphan Sunday, Intl.: November 10

First held in Zambia in 2003, the event spread to the United States in 2009 and continued to grow across the globe. Orphan Sunday (Stand Sunday in the United States) is an international outreach organized locally through various Christian churches and parishes. Christians are encouraged to stand for children who've lost the protection and care of family, defend the fatherless, protect the vulnerable and visit orphans in distress. The goal of orphan Sunday is: "that God's great love for the orphan will find an echo in our lives as well." "God sets the lonely in families." Psalm 68:6

Remembrance Sunday: November 10

Remembrance Sunday is the day churches in the Commonwealth of Nations commemorate those whose lives were lost in the line of duty during WWI. This date recalls the end of World War I, occurring with German representatives and the Entente, ending the hostilities “at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.” WWI officially ended with the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919. It falls on the 2nd Sunday of November, near Remembrance Day, which occurs on November 11.

In 2004, Bishop Aaron Blake, Sr. started “Stand Sunday” in the United States, at his church in Brownwood, Texas, as a call to stand up to care for children and families impacted by the child welfare system. The Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) initiated Stand Sunday to inspire and equip Christians for adoption, foster care, and global orphan care. The movement aims to draw attention to millions of children worldwide who desperately need a family. The year before, in 2003, in Zambia, a pastor called the local church to respond to the orphan crisis around them, creating the first International Orphan Sunday. During Stand Sunday services, congregations worldwide commit to prayer and raise awareness about the plight of orphans. Pastors share biblical teachings on adoption and families to consider adopting, fostering, or sponsoring a child in need.
