Juggler's (Multi-taskers) Day, Intl.: April 18*

06:20 AM | -
International Juggler's Day honors and celebrates everyday multitaskers, the people that juggle multiple things in their lives and their days. Multitasking is a skill that more and more people are forced to master due to the diversity and complications of life. This event differs from World Juggler's Day, which honors actual juggling artists who perform to our delight.

Laboratory Animals, World Week For: April 18-25

06:20 AM | -
World Week for Animals in Laboratories occurs the week of the United Nation's World Laboratory Animals Day, April 24. The goal of this week is to spotlight this issue and educate people about how animals are used in research, testing, and education. The American Anti-vivisection Society notes the following: "Nearly 20,000 cats were used in research in 2015, and thousands more were dissected in classrooms across the country. In 2015, over 60,000 dogs were used in research and testing. Beagles are the most commonly used dog breed because of their size and temperament. Pigs are used in many research areas, like cardiology, dermatology, xenotransplantation, and as surgical training models. Nearly 50,000 pigs were used in labs in 2015. Primates are target species for drug testing, neurological studies, and infectious disease research. In 2015, labs housed over 105,000 primates, 62,000 of which were used in experiments."

Lineman Appreciation Day, Ntl.: April 18

06:20 AM | -
National Lineman Appreciation Day recognizes the profession of linemen. Linemen are often first responders during storms and other events, working to make the scene safe for other public safety heroes. They perform atop powerlines 24/7 to keep electricity flowing and play a vital role in maintaining and growing the US energy infrastructure. Linemen often work in dangerous conditions, separated from their families to ensure schools and businesses remain open. The US House of Representatives created this day to recognize the efforts of linemen in keeping the power on and protecting public safety and their role as first responders.
