If you don't drink, try giving up soda, sugar, or something else for the month. It's all for a good cause and one of the easiest things you can do for someone and yourself!

ABOUT NATIONAL EGGPLANT MONTH National Eggplant Month occurs in July and promotes eggplant's culinary versatility and nutritional benefits, encouraging people to incorporate it into their diets. It is an unofficial event with no sponsor. History of Eggplant Eggplant (Solanum melongena), or aubergine, is a species in the nightshade family (Solanaceae). Its origins trace back to Asia, most likely India and China, where it has been cultivated for thousands of years. The earliest written records of eggplant come from ancient Chinese texts dating back to the 5th century. From there, it spread to the Middle East, Africa, and eventually Europe, where the Arabs introduced it during the Middle Ages. In Europe, eggplant was initially met with suspicion due to its relation to other nightshade plants, some of which are toxic. However, Europeans widely embraced eggplant in the 18th century. Early European settlers brought it to the Americas, which has since become a staple in various regional cuisines. Popularity of Eggplant Eggplant is beloved for several reasons: Versatility: whether grilling, baking, frying, or stewing, the vegetable's spongy texture absorbs flavors well, making it a versatile ingredient in many dishes. Fibroid Awareness Month: July

Commencing in 2016, July is Fibroid Awareness Month. Currently, several states and the District of Columbia recognize the month, with a grassroots push to make it a national month in the works. Estimates say that over 200,000 women are affected in the United States only, and this event is to spread awareness about the disease, what symptoms women should be wary of, and how or where to seek help. Fibroids (uterina myoma) are noncancerous growths in the uterus that can develop during a woman's childbearing years. The cause of fibroids isn't well understood. Risk factors include a family history of fibroids, obesity, or early onset of puberty. Symptoms may include heavy menstrual bleeding, prolonged periods, and pelvic pain. Treatments include medications and removal of the fibroid. Fibroids are chronic, meaning they can last for years or even lifelong. Supporters of the campaign are encouraged to wear white throughout July.

ABOUT FRAGILE X AWARENESS MONTH Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a genetic disorder that causes intellectual disability, behavioral and learning challenges, and various physical characteristics. It is the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability and autism. Causes of Fragile X Syndrome Fragile X Syndrome begins with a mutation in the FMR1 gene located on the X chromosome. This gene produces a protein called FMRP, essential for normal neural development. In individuals with FXS, a section of the FMR1 gene called the CGG triplet repeat is expanded. Symptoms of Fragile X Syndrome The symptoms of Fragile X Syndrome can vary widely among individuals, but common signs include: Intellectual and Developmental Delays: Delayed speech and language development Learning disabilities and cognitive impairments Intellectual disability Behavioral and Emotional Symptoms: Hyperactivity and impulsivity Anxiety and mood swings Autism spectrum disorder features, such as social avoidance and repetitive behaviors Attention deficits and difficulties in focusing Physical Characteristics: Long face and large ears Flat feet Hyperextensible joints, especially fingers Macroorchidism (enlarged testicles) in males after puberty Sensory Sensitivities: Sensitivity to light, sounds, textures, and other sensory inputs Prevalence of Fragile X Syndrome Fragile X Syndrome affects both males and females, though males are typically more severely affected due to having only one X chromosome. In Males: Approximately 1 in 4,000 to 1 in 7,000. In Females: Approximately 1 in 8,000 to 1 in 11,000. The variability in these estimates is due to differences in study methodologies and population sampling. Each year in July, Group B Strep International sponsors International Group B (GBS) Awareness Month to focus on educating pregnant women about the leading cause of sepsis and meningitis in newborns. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.), 25% of pregnant women are at risk or carriers. GBS infects babies during pregnancy and their first months of life, and GBS can cause miscarriages, stillborns, and premature birth. Many children who contract GBS become sick, suffer from lifelong handicaps, and/or die.

The Pharmacists Planning Service, Inc. sponsors Herbal Prescription Awareness Month. With the rise in over-the-counter supplements and the increased reliance on prescription drugs, hospitals and doctors are seeing a marked increase in illnesses resulting from herbal medicines interacting with prescription drugs. Herbal medicines can interact with prescription drugs in three ways: • Causing an exaggerated response to the effect of the prescription; • Counteracting the effect of the drug; • Inhibit absorption of a prescription by the body leading to the patient not getting enough medicine. This month teaches about herbal medicine's side effects and potential interactions and the prescriptions you take. Check with your pharmacist and ask for a list of any herbs known to cause issues with your medication.

Hong Kong Autonomy Revoked, (CN)(2020): July 1

In 2020, China implemented a new national security law in Hong Kong that effectively revoked the region's autonomy while granting the Chinese government broad powers to crack down on any activity deemed a threat to national security, including peaceful protests and dissent. Many in Hong Kong and the international community have criticized the national security law for its potential to undermine Hong Kong's autonomy and erode the civil liberties guaranteed under the "one country, two systems" policy. This policy began when Hong Kong was returned to China from British rule in 1997 and aimed to ensure that Hong Kong would retain a high degree of autonomy and preserve its own legal and economic systems for 50 years. In addition to the national security law, the Chinese government implemented additional policies and practices that have raised concerns about Hong Kong's autonomy. For example, China disqualified pro-democracy lawmakers from participating in the Hong Kong legislature, delayed local elections, and increased pressure on media outlets critical of the Chinese government. These actions have led to protests and international condemnation. Critics argue that China's efforts attempt to quash dissent and undermine Hong Kong's autonomy. In contrast, supporters of China's actions argue they are necessary to maintain stability and national security. To this day, the situation in Hong Kong remains highly contentious and uncertain.

National Ice Cream Month was signed into law on July 9, 1984, by President Ronald Reagan through Presidential Proclamation 5219, after Senator Walter Dee Huddleston sponsored the Joint Resolution 298 on May 17 of the same year. National Ice Cream Month is sponsored by the International Dairy Foods Association in acknowledgment of the importance of dairy farmers and the products they produce.
