Hans Riegel invented the Gummi Bear in Germany in 1922. In 1981 Trolli took the idea of the Gummi Bear and molded the jelly confection into worms. The idea was that children would love to wig out their parents by eating worms. It was a brilliant marketing ploy that children continue to eat up today.

Rising youth unemployment is one of the most significant problems facing economies and societies in today's world for developed and developing countries alike. The latest Global Employment Trends for Youth 2020: Technology and the future of jobs shows that since 2017, there has been an upward trend in the number of youth not in employment, education or training (NEET). In 2016 there were 259 million young people classified as NEET – a number that rose to an estimated 267 million in 2019, and is projected to continue climbing to around 273 million in 2021. In terms of percentage, the trend was also slightly up from 21.7% in 2015 to 22.4% in 2020 – implying that the international target to reduce the NEET rate by 2020 will be missed. Designated by the General assembly in 2014, the World Youth Skills Day is an opportunity for young people, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, and public and private sector stakeholders to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship."

PANAFEST originated with Pan-Africanist Efua Sutherland to promote and enhance unity, Pan-Africanism, and the cultural heritage of Africa. It was an initiative of the Ghanaian government in collaboration with Pan-African and cultural communities. The first official PANAFEST took place in 1992 and occurs every two years. The 10-day bi-annual festival is a multidisciplinary event featuring various events and activities, including historical exhibits, theater performances, music and dance shows, storytelling sessions, poetry readings, and academic conferences. It celebrates the richness and diversity of African and African diaspora cultures through active engagement in the continent's history. One of the defining features of PANAFEST is its emphasis on the history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade and its impact on African peoples. The festival often includes solemn ceremonies of remembrance and healing at historical sites related to the slave trade, such as the Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. World Snake Day aims to change perceptions of snakes. Sponsored by Advocate for Snake Preservation (ASP), its mission focuses on science, education, and advocacy to promote compassionate conservation and coexistence with snakes. From the promoters: "Each year, tens of thousands of rattlesnakes are taken from the wild to be displayed and slaughtered for entertainment and profit at rattlesnake roundups, which occur throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Alabama. Promoted as folksy, family-friendly fun, these events foster disrespect for native wildlife and the natural world. They are a gross example of wildlife management based on fear rather than science. Professional hunters, not bound by 'bag' or 'take' limits, remove snakes from their native habitats and are awarded cash prizes for bringing in the most and biggest snakes. Most snakes are caught by pouring gasoline into their winter dens, polluting surrounding land and water, and may impact up to 350 other wildlife species. Rattlesnake roundups depend on the public's misconception of snakes as dangerous pests that we cannot safely tolerate near our homes. No aspect of these events is sustainable, educational, or necessary." World Snake Day is one of two days highlighting snakes, and the other is Serpents Day.
