Fought on July 1, 1690, the Battle of Boyne was a decisive battle in Irish and English history. King William III, with his English and French Protestant armies, defeated King James’ army of Irish and French Catholics. This occurred on the banks of the River Boyne and halted the re-adoption of Catholicism in England. At the time, the Julian Calendar was in use rather than the Gregorian. Because of this, the holiday is marked in Northern Ireland as a celebration of Protestantism over Catholicism on its Julian date of July 12.

Big Butterfly Count is the second week of July through the first week of August. This nationwide survey updates the status of the environment. Created seven years ago, this has become the biggest butterfly counting survey event in the UK, with more than 400,000 butterflies counted each year. Non-binary people's day celebrates individuals who do not consider themselves male or female, but both or neither. Katje van Loon spawned the idea for Non-binary Day in a 2012 blog post after discovering on Wikipedia she is non-binary. She proposed placing a Non-binary Day between International Men's and International Women's Days on July 14 and then forgot the blog post. Several years later, she noticed the LGBTQ+ community had adopted her idea from the blog, and they were celebrating and marking the day.

In the Hindu faith, Chaturthi celebrates Lord Ganesha. Sankashti Chaturthi (Sankata Chaturthi) occurs on the fourth day of Krishna Paksha (dark lunar phase or the waning phase of the moon). Devotees observe daylight fasting until darshan (the sight of the moon). Once seen, prayers to Lord Ganesha are said, and the fast ends. Couch Potato Day (1976): July 15

Today is the anniversary of the first uttering of the words "couch potato" on July 15, 1976, by Tom Iacino of Pasadena, California. He was referring to his friend, cartoonist Robert Armstrong. According to a 2014 interview in Bon Appetite magazine, Armstrong's girlfriend answered the phone instead of saying, "Is Bob there?" Iacino instead asked, "Hey, is the couch potato there?" Armstrong loved the saying and trademarked it. By 1983 Armstrong and author and satirist Jack Mingo released "The Official Couch Potato Handbook" (currently published by Last Gasp Books). It became a best seller. Football fans use "couch potato" to mark the first Saturday of the College football season. A day in which one can sit on the couch and watch football games all day long, snacking, drinking beer, and simply enjoying themselves. Typically this falls on the Saturday after Labor Day. However you choose to celebrate, today is your day to kick off your shoes and plunge into that couch or lazy chair guilt-free!
