Color Therapy Month is a worldwide event in March, launched in 2011, to celebrate the healing power of color. March was chosen as Color Therapy Month because its themes and current holidays conjure thoughts of colorful rainbows and the color green. Green represents prosperity, good health, renewal, and growth. Under the guidance of Eleyne-Mari, Color Therapy Month is currently a global volunteer campaign whose mission is to observe and promote the benefits of color healing. "There are so many ways to experience the benefits of green," says organizer and certified color therapist Eleyne-Mari. "We can breathe green, wear green, eat green, drink green, carry a lucky green stone…even color our hair green!"

Colorectal Cancer Education & Awareness Month: March

Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month occurs in March and seeks to raise awareness of the risks and treatments of this type of cancer. Colorectal cancer is colon or rectum cancer, and it’s as common in women as it is in men. Over 130,000 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer each year, and over 50,000 will die. Through screening, this cancer can be prevented by removing polyps (grape-like growths on the wall of the intestine) before they become cancerous. Several screening tests detect colorectal cancer early when it can be more easily and successfully treated.

World Compliment Day began in The Netherlands in 2011 and has quickly spread worldwide to make March 1 the most joyful day of the year. Since, it has grown in popularity each year, with contests, awards, patterns, and ideas all made from thread and yarn. National Crochet Month’s mission is to promote CGOA and raise its visibility. Coalition to Prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) began sponsoring Deep-Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Awareness Month in March 2003 with a mission of highlighting the potentially fatal complications of pulmonary embolism (PE) / deadly blood clots. The risk of DVT and PE increases with age; anyone can be affected by deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Even Serena Williams, the professional tennis player, suffered a pulmonary embolism. This disease affects people from all walks of life, ages, and races.

Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month: March

In 1987 President Ronald Reagan proclaimed March "Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month." The deinstitutionalization movement of the seventies and early eighties laid the foundation for significant social change. This presidential proclamation called upon Americans to provide the "encouragement and opportunities" necessary for people with developmental disabilities to reach their potential. As those citizens began living within the general community in more significant numbers, programs to provide career planning, job coaching, and supported employment began to emerge. The idea that individuals with developmental disabilities could become productive workforce members was new to many people, and entrenched preconceptions had to be overcome. Advocates recognized a moral imperative to engage individuals with developmental – and other – disabilities. With the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990, workplace discrimination against people with disabilities became sanctionable. The Special Needs Alliance was formed in 2002 by a core group of prominent disability and elder law attorneys who recognized the unique planning needs of younger individuals with disabilities and their families. While the SNA now has members in 47 states, the organization continues to limit membership to those with proven credentials in disability law and advocacy.

Eisner, Will Eisner Week (1917): March 1-7

Will Eisner Week is an annual celebration promoting comics, graphic novel literacy, free speech, and the legacy of Will Eisner (March 6, 1917 - January 3, 2005). Eisner pioneered the use of graphic novels to teach complex subjects. He's best known for "The Spirit" (the 1940s), "A Contract with God and Other Tenement Stories" (1978), and "The Plot: The Secret Story of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" (2005). This week, which includes his birthday, honors his contributions to the graphic novel—annually celebrated since 2010.

Employee Spirit Month: March

Once you got a great job and company, it used to be that you had a new home and loyalty. That changed in the 1980s when employees became disposable in an atmosphere of layoffs, mergers, and acquisitions. Laws were passed, and "at-will employment" allowed a company to let an employee go without reason. As middle management jobs began to disappear, changing companies was the only way to move up in a career. Company loyalty? No employee could afford this. However, managers and owners need to reduce churn for a company or department to run well. That means valuing employees, listening to them, helping them succeed, supporting them, and getting out of their way so they can do their jobs. Creating an environment that does this, that shows employees, from the janitor to the CEO, that they are valued, is what Employee Spirit Month is all about.

Endometriosis Awareness Month, Intl.: March

Endometriosis can have a devastating effect on the quality of life due to its excruciating symptoms; it is the most significant cause of infertility in women and carries a substantial personal and societal cost. Endometriosis Awareness Month takes place across the US and Canada to raise awareness of a disease affecting an estimated 176 million women worldwide. Endometriosis is a painful, chronic disease that affects at least 6.3 million women and girls in the US, one million in Canada, and millions more worldwide. It occurs when tissue like that which lines the uterus (tissue called the endometrium) is found outside the uterus -- usually in the abdomen on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and ligaments that support the uterus; the area between the vagina and rectum; the outer surface of the uterus; and the lining of the pelvic cavity. Other sites for these endometrial growths may include the bladder, bowel, vagina, cervix, vulva, and abdominal surgical scars. Less commonly, they are found in the lung, arms, thighs, and other locations. This misplaced tissue develops into growths or lesions, which respond to the menstrual cycle in the same way that the tissue of the uterine lining does: each month, the tissue builds up, breaks down, and sheds. Menstrual blood flows from the uterus and out of the body through the vagina, but the blood and tissue shed from endometrial growths have no way of leaving the body. This results in internal bleeding, breakdown of the blood and tissue from the lesions, and inflammation—and can cause pain, infertility, scar tissue formation, adhesions, and bowel problems.
