June 11, 1184, BC is when the Mycenaean Greeks used their secret weapon, the Trojan Horse, to gain the advantage and defeat the city of Troy. The Trojan Horse was designed by carpenter Epeius. The large wooden structure was hollow and concealed several soldiers inside it. The Greeks brought this statue to the gates of Troy, leaving it. Their agent Sinon convinced the Trojans the Greeks had abandoned the war and had left the horse as an offering to the goddess Athena. Unbeknownst to the Trojans, the Greeks had sailed to one of the adjacent islands to wait for the horse to be moved inside the gates of Troy. Once the Trojans moved the offering inside the city walls, the soldiers inside came out, unlocked the gates, and let the balance of the Greek army into the city. Now in full force, the Greeks razed Troy, and the war ended. The Trojan horse has been iconic ever since and is often invoked as a metaphor for subversion and stealth.

Vat Purnima or Wat Purnima occurs on the full moon day in the month of Jyeshtha on the Hindu calendar. The videocassette recorder (VCR) allowed people to record and play their movies at home without a projector. The (VCR) changed movie viewing by families. Introduced in 1956, the VCR was further developed in 1970. The advent of cable television and more channels during the 1980s made owning a VCR necessary to record programs or play your films. The VCR remained a key component of entertainment systems through the 1990s. It was replaced by DVD players, which were soon replaced by DVR systems. VCR technology involves having a mechanical device that records sound and images in analog form on a video cassette. Convenience was its greatest asset as it can be paused and played again anytime wanted.

Vegans refrain from eating, using, or enjoying any of the following: 1) No Meat, dairy, fish, or eggs. 2) No clothing made from animals, including leather, fur, wool, or silk. 3) No products tested on animals. 4) No attending or watching entertainment that uses animals, including film, TV, circuses, zoos, rodeos, hunting, and wild animal parks. _____________ World Vegan Earth Day is the brainchild of Bob Linden, producer and host of Go Vegan with Bob Linden, a California-based global radio program; Vegan Earth Day immediately received national recognition. Mr. Linden conceived of the idea of Vegan Earth Day out of a concern that the largest contributors to climate change were not being addressed in other Earth Day celebrations. Linden stated: "In 2006, the United Nations told us that the livestock sector contributed 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. Now we understand that climate change is advancing faster than scientists predicted and that methane from cows is over 20 times more deadly as a greenhouse gas, and nitrous oxide from cows is over 200 times more potent. This means the livestock industry is even more culpable in addressing climate change than we ever imagined. The only true green lifestyle, then, is vegan. It's shocking, but meat and dairy cause global warming more than all transportation combined. So I started Vegan Earth Day so people would understand that the most important thing they can do to save the planet is to eat a vegan diet. Let's not depend on governments to save the environment. Viking Games, Frederikssund (DK): June 19-July 5

The Viking Games features popular games and events based on Viking mythology, occurring annually in Frederikssund, Denmark. In the summer of 793 AD, the Vikings landed on the island of Lindisfarne on the English east coast and ravaged the island monastery. In the autumn of 1066, at the Battle of Hastings in southern England, the Viking age ended. But in the summer of 1952, the Vikings returned to the scene via a party in Frederikssund. Since, Vikings have populated the beautiful open-air scene on Kalvøen at Roskilde Fjord every summer in June and July. The Viking festival is a unique opportunity to experience the history and participate in the games that helped define the future of Europe.
